Traylor to announce re-election bid

WASHINGTON — Mike Traylor officially announced his candidacy for re-election to the Washington School Board as an at-large representative.Traylor is seeking a second term on the board.

Before retiring, he taught at Washington High School for 35 years. In a release, Traylor said he “wants to continue our focus on improving academic performance while providing many extracurricular experiences for our students.”

“The most difficult decisions the past four years have been those to reduce staff,” Traylor said. “But I fully realize that our corporation must remain financially stable, and I have helped make the hard decisions.

“The most frustrating part of my job has been not only the cuts in state funding, but also the uncertainty of funding from the state for salaries, transportation and building maintenance,” Traylor said.

A member of the Washington Free Methodist Church, Traylor is a member of the Daviess County chapter of  Gideons International and RSVP.

Traylor and wife Sandra have two children, Paula (Gary) Gruen and Michelle (Bob) Iglehart, both WHS graduates. They also have six grandchildren.

He said the most rewarding job on the board has been hiring new administrators and teachers.

“We are fortunate to have had so many quality applicants,” Traylor said.

“The leadership now in place has the knowledge and skills to continue assisting our teachers in improving our state ratings.”

There are two at-large seats on the board. Vicki Bubalo is also running for re-election and Randy Bouchie is also running for a seat.
