Joseph Rehl

LOOGOOTEE — Joseph Charles Rehl, 76, died at 8:47 a.m. Saturday at his home. Born Oct. 12, 1936, in Superior, Wis., he was the son of Irene (Dunlap) and Leo Russell Rehl St. He was a 1953 graduate of Cathedral High School in Superior, Wis., and a member of St. John Catholic Church. He was a 3rd degree member of the Loogootee Knights of Columbus and a member of the Loogootee V.F.W. and American Legion. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran and was a retired mechanic from Jefferson Trucking in Shoals. He was also a member of Teamsters Local 135. He is survived by his wife, Edith (Fegan) Rehl, whom he married May 27, 1979; one daughter, Karen and husband Dennis Crays of Loogootee; two sons, Michael L. Rehl of Bedford and Peter J. Rehl of Loogootee; a stepdaughter, Cynthia (Daugherty) Downey and husband Tony of Shoals; one sister, Theresa Dineen and husband Erv Casper of Arkdale, Wis. Mr. Rehl raised three grandchildren, Miranda D. Rehl, Mary (Rehl) Stoll and husband Tyler, and Joseph “Joey” Rehl. He also is survived by six additional grandchildren, Daniel Crays, Zack Rehl, Ty Downey, Alex Downey, Colt Downey and Brandon Rehl; and four great-grandchildren, Abigail Survance, Kayden Honeycutt, Jaren Stoll and Kynlee Stoll. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Susan (Bratton) Rehl; his father, Leo Russel Rehl Sr. and wife Irene (Dunlap) Rehl; his mother, Irene (Dunlap) Rehl Brecke; and one brother, Leo “Punchie” Rehl. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church in Loogootee. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Loogootee, with millitary graveside rites conducted by the American Legion and V.F.W. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, with a Knights of Columbus memorial service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flower donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
