Henry Dye

SHOALS — Henry W. Dye, 92, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Martin County Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born Oct. 1, 1920, in Martin County, he was the son of the late Rama and Mary (Burch) Dye. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. A World War II Army veteran, with the rank of corporal, he served in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland, and central Europe. He received an EAME Theater Ribbon with five bronze stars, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal World War II. He worked at Maxion Construction Company for four years and then at Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane where he retired after 40 years and 11 months working in the Public Works Department Transportation Division. A member of AFGE Local 1415 and lifetime member of Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, he was a member of Shoals United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patsy (Hitchcock) Dye; his four children, Susan Dye of Evansville, Scott Dye of Shoals, David and Lu Ann Dye of Shoals, and Karen Dye of Shoals. Also surviving are one brother, Rama Dye Jr. of Loogootee, and three sisters, Dorothy Henry of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Mary Hamilton of Asheville, N.C., and Hazel Crane of Sullivan. Preceding him in death are four brothers, Earl, Moses, Isaac, and Byron, and four sisters, Alta, Olive, Almeda and Melba Jean. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals, with Pastor Delbert Stoll officiating. Burial will be in Goodwill Cemetery in Loogootee, with American Legion Post 61 conducting military graveside rites. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and after 8:30 a.m. until the hour of service Wednesday. White River Masonic Lodge F. and A.M. will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
