June 29, 1923 - July 17, 2012

LYONS — Mary Louise (Grant) Cornelius Christy, 89, formerly of Bloomfield and Switz City, passed away at 1:35 a.m. Tuesday at Lyons Health and Living Center. She was born June 29, 1923, in Daviess County, the daughter of James and Myrtle Jane (Shadd) Grant. Mary was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. She worked during World War II making parachutes, was a cook at Switz City School and retired as a teacher’s aide. She married Oscar Ray “Chris” Cornelius April 2, 1943, and Arthur “Bounce” Christy Oct. 8, 1971. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother and will always be remembered for her love of gardening and her rose gardens. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Cornelius (Marlin) Baker of Linton; a son, Steven (Diana) Cornelius of Switz City; five grandchildren, Jim (Mary) Baker of Linton, Brad (Deena) Baker of Linton, Chris (Linda) Cornelius of Switz City, Jared (Krista) Cornelius of Jasonville, and Stephanie (Dave) Watson of Worthington; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ray in 1969; her husband Arthur in 1999; brothers, Ray and David Grant; and a sister, Mabel (Grant) Doades, by whom Mary was raised. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Welch and Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, with Rev. Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Plainville Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.welchcornett.com.
