James ‘Ed’ Sherfick

SHOALS — James Edward “Ed” Sherfick, 82, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. Born Feb. 3, 1930, in New Albany, he was the son of Thomas D. and Elizabeth Jane “Bettie” (Hutton) Sherfick. He was a lifetime electrician and he began his career by wiring homes while in the eighth grade of school. From a very young age he also worked for the family businesses Sherfick Furniture Factory and Sherfick Music Service. He entered the United States Air Force in 1951. Upon completion of his service to his country in 1955 he worked for United States Gypsum and National Gypsum plants as an electrician. He then went to work for NAD Crane where he retired as foreman over the electrical division. Upon his retirement, he and his wife Mary Mae traveled extensively in his beloved RV and he did electrical work for many campgrounds along the way. He was a member of the American Legion Post 61, a former member of the Shoals Lions Club, and faithful member of the Shoals Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife Mary Mae, whom he married Feb. 19, 1953, at Shoals Church of Christ; daughters, Cynthia McAtee of Loogootee, and Sylvia and husband Nick Albaugh of Shoals; granddaughters, Sarah McAtee of Orlando, Fla., 1st Lt. Carrie McAtee of Charleston, S.C., Amy Albaugh of Shoals, and Erin Albaugh of Terre Haute. He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lucille Peay; and two brothers, Thomas Sherfick and Charles William Sherfick. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. Burial will be Spring Hill Cemetery, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 61. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Condolences may be made to the family at www.queenlee.com.
