WASHINGTON — Marilyn J. “Money” Burkhardt passed away Monday at Washington Health Care Center. She was born July 10, 1931, to the late Rudie and Rose Smith in Altus, Okla. She was raised in Lubbock, Texas, and graduated Lubbock Senior High School on May 29, 1950. She then went on to graduate Lubbock School of Nursing on Sept. 4, 1953. She married her loving husband Norman E. Burkhardt Jr. Dec. 19, 1953. He had just received his pilot’s wings and 2LT commission in the U.S. Air Force on Dec. 16, 1953. Being a military wife, Marilyn lived in several different places and worked as a nurse in a variety of different hospitals. After Norman left active duty, Marilyn moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., where she was employed at St. Petersburg Hospital for seven years. She moved to east central Ohio July 1963 and raised three sons. Marilyn and her husband both retired in December 1987. In 2001 she moved to Washington, her husband’s hometown. She was preceded in death by her parents Rudie and Rose Smith of Lubbock, Texas. Marilyn is survived by her brothers Joe Dean and Jerry Dean Smith; sons, Robert, Donald and John; five grandchildren; a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter. She attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of the Eastern Star at Heath, Ohio. She was Worthy Matron twice and served as Ada. Marilyn liked to read, work word puzzles, and watch old movies. She liked to ride fan train trips. Funeral services will be at Gill Funeral Home Friday at 10 a.m., officiated by Brian Johnson. Visitation will be Thursday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Sugarland Memory Gardens. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.gillsince1872.com
