Power strip causes fire

Police Report

WASHINGTON — The Washington Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 800 Jefferson St. at 10:52 p.m. Thursday.

There was no gas heat to the residence, owned by Annette Hambrick, and an electric heater had been plugged into a power strip. The power strip shorted out, according to WFD Chief David Rhoads, causing major damage to the residence. No one was home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters were on the scene until 1 a.m. Seven off-duty firefighters were called in to assist on the fire.
