WASHINGTON — The Mennonite Central Committee’s meat canner was in full swing at Dinky’s on Tuesday. From left: Robert Graber, Mark Yoder, Ora Knepp and Bill O’Brian help can 12,000 pounds of turkey. Local volunteers work to can the meat, and raise the money to buy the turkey. Most of the canned meat will be shipped to more than a dozen countries, but some will stay locally for needy families and soup kitchens. Last year some of the meat was shipped to Honduras, Haiti, Bosnia, North Korea, Siberia and Ukraine, for use in refugee camps, orphanages and hospitals where proteins are especially in short supply. Volunteers worked late Tuesday evening, and will continue the process today until early evening.

Bridal Connection, 217 E. Main St., will a runway show/vendor fair on Thursday which will serve as a fund-raiser for Washington High School Prom. Doors open at 5 p.m., event begins at 6 p.m. Students will be taking donations at the door and selling refreshments.
