Plainville man arrested for child molesting

PLAINVILLE — A Plainville man was arrested Monday for two counts of child molesting.

Tyler Gage Meredith, 20, was taken in by Daviess County Sheriff’s deputies for a count of Class B felony child molesting and a count of Class C felony child molesting.

Meredith was released from the Daviess County Security Center later that day on $10,000 bond.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed in Daviess Superior Court, Meredith is accused of engaging in a sexual act with a 4-year-old girl on Aug 18, 2012.

The affidavit stated Meredith was watching the girl and his son at his apartment in Plainville that evening.

Meredith’s son and the girl share the same mother, but not the same father and he was watching the two while the mother worked.

It is the policy of the Times Herald not to identify possible victims of abuse or those related to them.

It was that evening the alleged act occurred and Meredith allegedly told the girl not to tell anyone or she would be in trouble.

A couple days later, the girl told her mother and she contacted police. The girl was also taken to a local doctor.

The local Child Protective Services also interviewed the girl and her mother.

Meredith was then interviewed by deputies. He denied the allegations brought before him and said the girl has had issues with sexual identity. Meredith said the mother had spoken to him about the issues.

Meredith’s attorney, Scott Callahan of Bedford, declined comment. No court hearings have been set in the case.
