Washington had a tough day at the Jasper Municipal Golf Course Saturday, shooting a team scorer of 460 in the Wildcat Invitational.
Natalya Meinhart shot 105, Kayla Mercer 108, Cheyenne Jones 123, Haven Lunsford 124 and Liz Sievers 155 for Washington.
Jasper Black won the event with a team score of 325. Annie Getzin of Jasper was medalist with 72.
They were followed by: Castle, 332; Evansville North, 338, Floyd Central, 342; Jasper White 369, Southridge 406; Jasper Gold, 415; Corydon Central, 430, North Harrison, 434; Providence, 435; Salem, 438; Forest Park, 441; and Washington, 460.
Lions defeat North, 3-2
LOOGOOTEE –– Loogootee boys tennis defeated Evansville North, 3-2, Saturday. Jesse Horney was the only singles winner of the three competitors in singles for Loogootee.
Despite only winning one of the three singles matchups, the Lions were led to victory by a sweep of both doubles matches behind Waylon Matthews-Gabe Holley as well as Tyler Booker-Will Nonte.
Loogootee coach Rick Graves said Saturday’s win was a good test in the early season for the Lions.
“(Evansville) North has a good, young team so our depth and experience helped us win this match,” Graves said.
Hayden Bell-Jayce Wagoner, Pryce Hedrick-Wyatt Wade, Jordan Berry-Cam Hedrick were victorious in junior varsity doubles.
Vikings open with wins
BLOOMFIELD — Barr-Reeve opened its high school volleyball season with two wins.
The Vikings defeated Bloomfield, 25-21, 25-14, 25-14, Friday. Barr-Reeve opened with a 25-15, 25-12, 25-8, win at Sullivan Thursday.
Hannah Bullock had 11 kills and eight service points for the Vikings at Bloomfield. Hania Sisco had eight kills while Tiara Kenney added seven.
Tanisha Graber had nine service points and Jenna Knepp seven digs. Knepp added 16 assists while Cori Cummings had 10.
Cummings had 20 assists against Sullivan. Allison Hoover had 16 service points and Kenney 14 kills.
The Vikings topped Sullivan in the junior varsity match, 25-15, 25-19, and defeated Bloomfield, 25-13, 25-14.
Cardinal girls play to draw
The Washington Catholic Middle School girls soccer team tied Evansville Christian, 3-3, Saturday, while the boys team (0-2) dropped a 10-0 decision.
Christian Smith scored two goals for the girls team (1-0-1) and Lexi Hornback one.

Loogootee falls to Rivet in Sectional 63
LOOGOOTEE - Loogootee saw its chance to repeat as sectional champions end in dramatic fashion as Vincennes Rivet claimed the opening game of Sectional 63 with a 5-4, nine-inning win at Les Page Field on Wednesday.

IU still working towards sixth banner
Monday night in Atlanta, Louisville won the school’s first National Championship since the year I was born - 1986. This accomplishment is significant to Indiana basketball fans, because the last two times the Cardinals cut down the nets (1980, 1986), the Hoosiers did it the following year. The stat, of course means nothing, other than both schools had strong programs in the 1980s.
