WASHINGTON —
Two teenagers were taken to an Evansville hospital after a one-car accident
At 8:36 p.m.Friday , a 1992 Buick LeSabre driven by Johnathan A. Tarwater, 17, Jasonville, was coming over a hill on SR 57 near CR 225N. He felt a semi was coming into his lane and slid off the road to the right. He then overcorrected and was sliding into the other lane when his passenger, Sierra Wainman, 18, 14215N 900E, grabbed the wheel and jerked the car off the road. The car then ran off the road and flipped into a corn field owned by Boyd Grain.
Wainman, the owner of the car, had neck pain and another passenger, Shiane G. Barnhart, 17, Odon, suffered a back and neck injury. Another passenger, Jacob Michael Bowling, 18, Washington was uninjured. Wainman and Barnhart were not wearing seatbelts and Bowling was.
Wainman and Barnhart were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital following the accident.
Deputies found two beer bottles thrown from the vehicle and Wainman and Bowling were both cited for minor consumption. Bowling was released from the Daviess County Security Center on $2,000 bond. Tarwater was not drinking but was cited for a learner’s permit violation.
Deputies reported high speed and texting while driving as reasons for the accident.
