MARKLEVILLE — William S. Hart, 91, passed away on Tuesday at the Marquette Manor Health Care Center. He was born on Feb. 24, 1922, in Washington, and resided most of his life in Markleville. William served his country in the Army Air Corp and the Air Force in January of 1942. He served as an aircraft maintenance technician and crew chief at Molesworth Air Force Base in England with the 360th quadron, 303rd (H) Bomber Group, 8th Air Force Division. In 1944 the 33rd received the Presidential Unit Citation for their exemplary service leading a bombing campaign over Nazi Germany. During World War II, he also participated in campaigns in Northern France, Rhineland, North Africa, as well as supporting the effort at Normandy on D-Day. After the war was over he was assigned to the Strategic Air Command (SAC) in Nuremburg, Germany, to help with the European rebuilding effort. During the Korean War, he was stationed in Japan with the 35th Fighter Wing, FEAF. After the Korean War was over, he was then stationed at Castle Air Force Base as part of SAC, where he was an aircraft technician for B-52 bombers. Mr. Hart received numerous commendations throughout his illustrious military career. He retired from the United States Air Force as an E-7 Master Sergeant after 20 years of distinguished service in 1963. He worked at Delco Remy retiring in 1984 and was a member of the Markleville Masonic Lodge No. 629. William is survived by his children, Bill (Joellen) Hart of Kokomo, Marie (Butch) Mercer of Indianapolis, Loretta (Darius) Greer of Carthage, Helga (Gayle) Bridges of Hot Springs Ark.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Companion and family friend, Mary Adams of Chesterfield and several nephews and nieces also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Else (Engelbrecht) Hart and parents, James Harrison and Etta (Gilley) Hart and three sisters. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory, Anderson, with a Masonic Service at 6 p.m. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home with Rev. Brian Dwiggins officiating. Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Wounded Warrier.

Born Dec. 3, 1947 in Montgomery, he was the son of Virgil and Mary (Yates) Foster. He graduated from Alfordsville High School in 1965.

Monday night in Atlanta, Louisville won the school’s first National Championship since the year I was born - 1986. This accomplishment is significant to Indiana basketball fans, because the last two times the Cardinals cut down the nets (1980, 1986), the Hoosiers did it the following year. The stat, of course means nothing, other than both schools had strong programs in the 1980s.
