WASHINGTON — Glendora E. Armes, 90, of Washington, died at 5:27 p.m. Tuesday at Daviess Community Hospital. Born June 11, 1922, in Washington, she was the daughter of Andrew and Ethel (Davis) Gress. She attended Washington High School and was a member of Bethany Christian Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and working out in the yard. She is survived by daughters, Sharon (John) Edwards, and Carol (Charles) Sloan; a son, Randy Armes; two sisters, Velma Wade and Babe Mattingly; many grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Her husband, Hobart D. Armes, whom she married Jan. 28, 1942, is deceased. Her parents and a son, Gordon Wesley Armes, are also deceased. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gill Funeral Home, with Bro. Matthew Merrold officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Monday night in Atlanta, Louisville won the school’s first National Championship since the year I was born - 1986. This accomplishment is significant to Indiana basketball fans, because the last two times the Cardinals cut down the nets (1980, 1986), the Hoosiers did it the following year. The stat, of course means nothing, other than both schools had strong programs in the 1980s.
