Robert ‘Gunny’ Payne

LOOGOOTEE — Robert R. “Gunny” Payne, 58, died at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday at Daviess Community Hospital. Born Dec. 24, 1954, in Fort Worth, he was the son of B.W. and Marie (Smith) Payne. He was a retired 20-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a contracting office representative at Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane. He enjoyed drag racing, doing DJ music services and watching and following NASCAR. He was a member of the Bloomfield American Legion Post 196 and the Crane V.F.W. Post 9297. He is survived by his wife, Johnette (Cowser) Payne, whom he married May 16, 1982; his parents, B.W. and Marie Payne of Granbury, Texas; one son, Jeremy Payne of Florida; two brothers, Ken Payne of Enid, Okla., and Gary Payne of Texas; and one sister, Amy Payne of Texas. The body of Robert Payne was cremated and there will be no services. Arrangements were made through Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
