John Rang

WASHINGTON — John Rang of Washington, son of Dr. Robert H. Rang, passed from this life Friday at the Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville. John Robert Rang was born on May 12, 1954, to Dr. Robert H. and Marcella Peterson Rang at the Daviess County Hospital in Washington. He was baptized at St. John’s Episcopal Church, attended North Side School, Washington Junior High School and Washington High School. In his senior year of high school, John was accepted to a dual track program in Mankato, Minn., where he graduated from Mankato High School while earning college credits from Mankato State University. After high school graduation, John attended Vincennes University, and later on received a degree in business administration from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. For many years, John worked for the B and O Railroad, until a back injury forced him to retire. After a period of self-employment, John was employed for several years at the Bluebird Cafe in Bloomington, until he started working for the Daviess County Health Department, first as a food inspector and then as a septic system inspector, a job he held until his death. During the past several years, John was also a loving caregiver for his elderly father. John had served as a national and state delegate for the Libertarian Party. He believed in the United States Constitution as written by our Founding Fathers and dedicated his time, effort, and money to further its cause. He was a staunch supporter of U.S. Congressman Ron Paul. John is survived by his father, Dr. Robert H. Rang from Washington; his brothers, Dr. Jim (Julia) Rang from Newburgh, and Dr. Stuart (Peggy) Miles from Prospect, Ky.; his sisters, Elizabeth (Lester) Holcomb from Edgartown, Mass., and Holly Rang from Ashland City, Tenn.; uncles, Dr. Clifton E. (Gladys) Peterson from Kenosha, Wis., and Ray Peterson from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; nephews, Jacob Holcomb from Honolulu, Hawaii, Alex (Laura) Rang and Eric Rang from Evansville, and David Rang from Ashland City.; nieces, Kate Holcomb from New Orleans, La., Amythest Rang from Ashland City, Madison Miles, Meagan Luckett and Lauren Luckett from Prospect; many cousins; and two great-nephews, Robert H. Rang and James A. Rang from Evansville. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. Arthur and Gladys Rang and Charles and Ida Peterson; his mother, Marcella Peterson Rang; and his sister, Roberta Rang; several aunts, Barbara Schafer, Margaret Toft, and Berneace Cataldo; and uncles, Dr. William C. Schafer, Louis Toft, Sam Cataldo, and Calvin Peterson. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Gill funeral Home on Wednesday. There will also be visitation Thursday at the church from 11 a.m. to service time. The funeral service will be conducted at Antioch Christian Church at 1 p.m. Thursday, with Bro. Keith Meece officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held at the Washington Country Club after the burial. Everyone who loved or cared for him or his family is invited. Donations in his memory may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and the Arbor Day Foundation.
