WASHINGTON —
For the third straight year, the Harlem Wizards will be entertaining the Hatchet House as a fundraiser for the Washington High School band.
Set for April 12 at 7 p.m., the Wizards bring their high-flying, high-energy and high-comedy team against the local B-Flat Bombers, a group of local teachers and basketball dignitaries.
The game has been so popular in Washington, the Wizards are looking to break an attendance record for the team. In the past, the Washington game has been one of the largest for the New York-based group.
"The past record is 3,200 for Noblesville," Wizards President Todd Davis said. "We think Washington can beat Noblesville." WHS Band Booster parent Ken Showalter says the Wizards game is the largest fundraiser for the WHS band. Proceeds from the game help pay for uniforms, instruments and competitions.
"Whether a person is 9 or 99, they will have fun," Showalter said. "It's a very family-friendly fun game and very affordable." As in the past, the B-Flat Bombers are looking to steal one away from the Wizards. This year, Daviess Community Hospital CEO David Bixler will lead the team. WHS Principal LeAnne Kelley will be Bixler's assistant.
Scheduled to appear for the Bombers, among others, are former Indianapolis Colts cheerleader and Odon resident Alyssa, WHS coaches Quintin Myers and Eric Gilley, North Daviess basketball coach Brent Dalrymple and Barr-Reeve Principal Jeff Doyle. Showalter said the roster is being completed and will be available later. Davis said fans can expect the same high-flying antics of past Wizards teams, but there will be new attractions that will keep the audience laughing.
"There will be dancing, a lot of dancing," Davis said.
Tickets are available at local Chuckles stations and the Washington Holiday Inn Express, 1808 E. Nat'l Hwy. They are also available online at www.harlemwizards.com.

IU still working towards sixth banner
Monday night in Atlanta, Louisville won the school’s first National Championship since the year I was born - 1986. This accomplishment is significant to Indiana basketball fans, because the last two times the Cardinals cut down the nets (1980, 1986), the Hoosiers did it the following year. The stat, of course means nothing, other than both schools had strong programs in the 1980s.
