City offices closed today

WASHINGTON — To allow the city of Washington employees to attend the funeral service of  co-worker and dear friend Building Commissioner Chris Wimmenauer, all offices and departments of the city will close from 10 a.m. to noon today. The fire and police departments will remain open and staffed.  Out of respect for Chris and his family the Building Commissioner’s Office will be closed the entire day today.

Open house at Hope House

Hope House, 704 W. Van Trees St., will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday to give free food and clothing to anyone in need. Hope House is a ministry of Church on the Way.

City Council  to meet

Washington City Council will meet Monday following two public hearings that will begin at 6:30 p.m. The first hearing will be on the general penalty provision amendment of the code of ordinances. The second will be on the amendment of proposed water rates and charges.

The Council meeting will follow the public hearings for the final reading of those two ordinances along with ordinances fixing compensation of the officers, employees, firemen and policemen, and salaries of elected officials. Also the opening of bids on the demolition and removal of garage at 402 W. Hefron St.

The Board of Public Works and Safety will meet following the Council meeting. Items included on the agenda: discussion/approval of claims and permits submitted; discussion/approval of Victory Tabernacle to close a portion of 15th Street on Oct. 21; award of bids for demolition of garage; discussion/approval of transformer agreements with Daviess County Rural Water and McDonald’s Restaurant; discussion/approval of speed limit signs on Bussard Road and request to hold a 5K run throughout the city.

Sandborn dinner on Sunday

The Sandborn Town Park Board will hold a fried chicken dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Sandborn Community Building.

Donations will be accepted.
