LOOGOOTEE — John E. Freyberger, 65, passed away at 10 a.m. Sunday at his home. He was born in Martin County on Nov. 1, 1946, to John William and Florence L. (Potts) Freyberger. He married Louise Schnarr on May 17, 1969, at Christ Lutheran Church in Haysville. A 1964 graduate of Alfordsville High School, he was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane where he had worked for 32 years. He also farmed for many years. While serving in the military he was awarded a Commendation for Valor with Oak Leaf Cluster and also was a recipient of a Purple Heart. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, V.F.W. Post 673 and American Legion Post at Loogootee. His hobbies were NASCAR and checkers and especially time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Louise; two daughters, Michelle and husband Jason Davis and Debra and husband Douglas Duvall, all of Loogootee; one son, John Michael and wife Lindsey of Loogootee; five grandchildren, twins Tyler and Taylor Davis, Emma Davis, Adriana Duvall and Michael Duvall; and three sisters, Phyllis Freyberger of Florida, Mary Crosby of Loogootee, and Shirley Schnarr of Otwell. He is preceded in death by one grandson, John Carter Freyberger. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church, with Rev. Timothy Kraemer officiating. Burial will be in Community Cemetery in Haysville. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel and one hour before services Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or to Palliative Care and Lange Fuhs Cancer Center in Jasper.
