Richard ‘Dick’ Decker

June 15, 1945 - Oct. 7, 2012

WASHINGTON — Richard “Dick” A. Decker, 67, of Washington, died at 7:39 a.m. Sunday at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Born June 15, 1945, in Vincennes, he was the son of Lawrence and Irene (Irr) Decker. He served in the U.S. Army, a veteran of the Vietnam War, and earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Purdue University. He retired from Perdue Farms in 2006 and for the past five years he owned and operated Decker’s Bakery. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion 121 where he was a past commander, V.F.W., Eagles and Moose Lodge. He is survived by two daughters, Jessica (John) Puntney and Ashley (Clint) Longest, all of Evansville; a son, Josh Decker of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Gerald Decker; a sister, Gladys Partridge; and three grandchildren, Trevor and Aubrey Puntney and Tyson Longest. He is preceded in death by two brothers, John and Kenneth Decker. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Gill Funeral Home. Preferred memorials are to Disabled Veterans Association.
