PRINCETON —
PRINCETON - The Princeton Tigers warmed up for their Big 8 Conference showdown with Washington on Friday in their traditional home red jersey’s, then changed to a camouflage jersey in the same colors worn by the proud members of the U.S. Army just prior to kickoff.
But the blue camouflage of the U.S. Air Force might have been more appropriate. That’s because the Tigers put on an aerial show that the Hatchets ground attack couldn’t match.
Tiger quarterback Colton Wilder threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns as Princeton (3-0, 1-0) defeated Washington (0-3, 0-2) 50-32.
Wilder directed five scoring drives for the Tigers in the first half, throwing touchdown passes of 82 yards to Deon Hardiman and 15 yards to Austin Clark. In addition, Wilder ran for a pair of scores and Hardiman added a short touchdown run to cap drives as the Tigers led 36-24 at halftime.
Washington tried to answer on the ground. After a slow start, the Hatchets got their running game untracked as Kane Waggoner, Jaden Arvin, Tyler Edmiston, and Kyle Pfender found running room. Edmiston contributed a pair of first half scoring runs and Arvin added a touchdown run in the opening half, but their efforts couldn’t compensate for a Washington defense that had no answer for the Tigers shotgun passing attack. Overall, the Tigers finished with 561 yards of total offense.
Arvin added another touchdown run in the fourth quarter for WHS, and the junior finished with 81 yards on 13 carries for a Hatchet offense that racked up 318 yards of total offense. Edmiston led the Hatchets with 107 yards on 16 carries, and also contributed three runs for 2-point conversions as Washington didn’t attempt an extra point in an effort to keep up with the Tiger offense. Cody Milligan also hauled in a 2-point pass from Jake Brashear for WHS.
Waggoner added six carries for 39 yards, while Pfender netted 47 yards on four carries and added a 24-yard kickoff return and a 15-yard punt return.
Wilder added another touchdown strike in the third quarter as the Tigers fronted 43-24 after three quarters of action. Princeton spent most of the fourth quarter trying to run time off the clock, but still got a 29-yard touchdown run from Hardiman late in the game.
Washington lineman Jalen Madison left the game with an injury late in the first half. Madison was taken off the field on a backboard, and his condition was unknown after the game.
Washington will return home next week as the Hatchets look to retain possession of the Highway 57 Helmet when they host North Daviess on homecoming at Hatchet Hollow.

IU still working towards sixth banner
Monday night in Atlanta, Louisville won the school’s first National Championship since the year I was born - 1986. This accomplishment is significant to Indiana basketball fans, because the last two times the Cardinals cut down the nets (1980, 1986), the Hoosiers did it the following year. The stat, of course means nothing, other than both schools had strong programs in the 1980s.

Kebabs: Health kick on a stick
Grilling is a simple way to feed your family well this summer. Start with a lean meat and a healthful marinade and then allow the grill to strip away additional fat for a heart-healthy and waist-friendly final result. Plus, grilling caramelizes the natural sugars in foods, which adds flavor without additional calories and fat.
