MONROE CITY — Michael R. Gardner, 69, passed away Monday at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born May 14, 1943, in Vincennes, he was the son of Charles W. and Mary Marie (McCormick) Gardner. Mike retired as an over the road truck driver and attended the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. An avid dragster racer, he belonged to the Quarter Miler Club. He is survived by his mother, Mary Marie Gardner Stone of Monroe City; his two children, Jimmy and Michaela Rae; his two brothers, Dan Gardner and his wife Martha Ann, and Dave Gardner and his wife Martha Jo, all of Monroe City; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six nephews, one niece and seven great-nephews. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Goodwin Funeral Home, with Revs. Dave Parman and Mark Nielson officiating.
