Home robbed on New Year's Day

Police Report

WASHINGTON — CITY REPORT

Tuesday

7:54 p.m. - A Walmart security employee reported a male subject pushed two TVs out of the store without paying. A description of the subject’s vehicle and direction of travel were given. She requested an officer to look at the surveillance video.

9:55 a.m. - A male caller found a green and black Next bike on Edwardsport Road and delivered it to the police station. 

CITY ACCIDENTS

Dec. 21

4:54 p.m. - Helen M. Colvin, 71, 2300 Country View Dr., was stopped at the stop sign on Hefron Street at SR 57 in her 2001 Chevrolet Malibu. When she attempted to cross the highway, she collided with a northbound 2008 Chrysler Town and Country van driven by Ross A. McBride, 32, Plainville. No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.

2:20 p.m. - Matthew A. Babrick, 19, 110 Maple St., was westbound on Bedford Road in his 2006 Ford Mustang with a pup in the vehicle with him. He stated the small dog distracted him as he made a sharp lefthand turn near Sugarland Road. He traveled left of center, striking an eastbound 2007 Jeep Wrangler registered to James L. Simpson and driven by Garrett J. Simpson, 19, both of 1601 N. Oak Ridge Ln.

Simpson had severe bleeding to his arm and was treated at the scene. Damage was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.

Dec. 18

9:32 a.m. - John R. Perry, 57, 7 Sugarland Rd., was delivering mail and had parked a 1992 Chevrolet van registered to the U.S. Postal Service, 405 Center St., facing north in front of 624 S.W. First St. When he got back into the mail van, it was struck from behind by a 1990s model gray Jeep Cherokee. He said he could not see the driver, who fled the scene.

The owner was identified as Susan Spaulding, and her son Chad Mattingly had driven the vehicle, which they reported stolen from his girlfriend’s house. The Jeep was found later in the day parked on Field Street. The uninsured vehicle had damage consistent with what would have been incurred in the accident.

Perry complained of neck pain and was checked at the scene. Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

COUNTY REPORT

Tuesday

3:19 a.m. - A caller reported ice chunks were falling off the I-69/SR 257 overpass. An accident report was completed.

6:17 p.m. - A caller at 753E Bean Drive reported a robbery were items, including jewelry, where taken. An investigation is ongoing.

  • Lyons gets 65 years

    Dressed in a bright green jumpsuit and escorted by members of the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department, Corey Mitchell Lyons, 23, entered the court room, and sat hunched over a table with his family sitting behind. On the other side of the room sat family members of a baby who was life was taken to soon and the mother of Lyons’ child Savanna Johnson.
