WASHINGTON — In a surprise presentation recently, William and Bev Summers of Washington were recognized with the annual Edward Jones Achievement Award. The couple were presented with matching wristwatches.
The award was established to honor Daviess County residents who have provided exemplary service to the community, according to Edward Jones financial advisor Alan Bubalo. He said people from all areas of the county are considered for the recognition.
“We try to pick people for their willingness to give,” Bubalo continued, adding each award recipient provides different services to the community. “That’s what this award is all about.”
In conjunction with the award, local Edward Jones agencies donate $1,000 to an Edward Jones Achievement Award Fund within the Daviess County Community Foundation. Earnings from the fund are used collectively with those from other unrestricted funds to benefit 24 different nonprofit organizations in the county, Bubalo said.
“We don’t want to dictate where the funds go. We want them to go to the most needy organizations,” he said, explaining DCCF staff has a better grasp on that.
Bubalo said the award is Edward Jones advisors’ way of recognizing the community’s philanthropists and also helping the community themselves.
Past recipients include: Dave Cox, Henry Gwaltney, Glen Graber, Albert Kavanaugh, Jeannie Burks, Barbara Smith, Abe Knepp, Art Boddy, Jim Norton and Chuck Taylor Jr.
